Martijn about his work at FLAT_land. My work arises in interaction with the surrounding where I am part of, at the moment the Poptahof in Delft. I develop my ideas in animation, drawings and site specific sculpture. Beforehand it is not clear what I will make, I get influenced by what is happening in my direct surroundings. I pay attention to street life, I attempt to oversee and influence and try to keep it outside, the architecture of the Poptahof is a dominant factor and in fact a decor where my attempts take place. www

The flats named The Poptahof in Delft is characterised by an exodus of people that have to find a place elsewhere because of demolition plans. I'm interested in representing the movement of this exodus.

A decay, fragmentation or exodus that is seen at this location, is a fascinating proces to me. The challenges lei in making aspects like time and represention of certain consequences of these events, visible. One of my first my first activities consists of interventions and gestures under an working title 'PLane idea'. The goal is to react as simple as possible certain characteristics of the Poptahof like mentioned earlier above. One of them on a rooftop of the entry of the flat, pointing out the only 'natural' and unspoiled green-zone in the area.

Another intervention 'Individual horizon' I'd like to take place on a square situated beneath the flat and try to create an epi centre of a trundling mass of people by means of hoops. From here on out the hoops can be taken out of the area into the neighboorhoods surrounding it, attempting to make a representation of the exodus that is currently starting to appear in this area.

The outcome I expect to be a cross pollination of graphical and sculptural interventions in the direct surrounding of the Poptahof. These have to answer to apparitions of declination, destruction, social fragmentation or the exodus in this neigbourhood.
